Hyves or Facebook, what's the big difference?
As most other Dutch internet minded people, I am a proud owner of a Hyves-page. Nowadays I keep on getting question from my, mostly English, colleagues if I have a Facebook-page. Now I know that there are people out there that have/had them both and I really don’t fancy to maintain 3 different pages. My own blog and Hyves is more than enough. I’d like to know what the differences are between the 2 and which one I should choose. I’m sure you can convert a Hyves-page to a Facebook one and vice versa, so that doesn’t bother me.

The two prime differences are, as you say yourself, language and audience. Hyves is mostly in Dutch, with almost only Dutch members. If your social network largely extends across national borders and language barriers, I’d say Facebook is the better option. Keep in mind though, that because Hyves is almost the de facto standard in NL, you’ll lose most of your Hyves contacts when switching to FB.

I guess it all depends on who you know, and where they live
